Read this first: these are national estimates from published 2026 cost guides. We haven't collected enough Greenville quotes to give local numbers, so we aren't pretending to. Your price depends on the job, the house and the plumber. Ask for the price before work starts.

What pushes a Greenville price up or down
How old the house is

About 19% of homes in the city of Greenville were built before 1960, and 12% across Greenville County (Census Reporter, ACS 2024). Galvanized steel water pipe was used in homes until about the 1960s (Nations Home Inspections), and many homes built before the 1970s still have cast-iron drains (Hale Home Services). A simple swap can turn into a bigger repair once the plumber sees what's behind the wall. More on old houses.
Where the pipe runs
Work in a tight crawlspace takes longer than work in an open basement, and a leak under a slab costs the most to reach. Tell the plumber what's under your house when you call.
Cold snaps
Greenville Water says a burst pipe repair starts around $400, and the same page suggests letting faucets drip, insulating pipes and opening cabinet doors on freezing nights (Greenville Water). The Christmas 2022 freeze broke pipes across the South, so plumbers get busy fast when it hits (NPR).
Out in the county
Plumbers in rural markets commonly add $50–$100 for a trip outside their main service area (Bridgit). If you're out past Travelers Rest, Easley or the edge of Simpsonville, ask about travel when you call.
Greenville County permits
Greenville County requires plumbing permits for new or relocated fixtures, and mechanical permits for new equipment and change-outs (Greenville County). Inside the city, start with the Building & Permit Center. A plumber normally pulls the permit and builds the fee into the price.
Before you say yes to a price
- Describe the problem clearly and send photos if the plumber asks.
- Ask whether they charge a trip fee, by the hour, or a flat price.
- For anything over a few hundred dollars, ask for the price in writing first.
- Get the company name and license number and check it at the SC LLR license lookup.
- For a big job, a second opinion is normal if nothing is actively leaking.
